Match Preview: Manchester United vs. Burnley

Manchester United will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Burnley to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw with struggling Newcastle United in the league on Monday night, but Burnley have not been in action since drawing 0-0 with West Ham United on December 12.

Manchester United have lost just one of their last 13 Premier League games against Burnley (W8 D4), going down 2-0 at Old Trafford in January 2020.

60% of Burnley’s Premier League points against Manchester United have come at Old Trafford (6/10 – W1 D3 L3). In Premier League history only Cardiff (75%), West Bromwich Albion (67%) and Crystal Palace (64%) have won a higher share of their points against Man Utd away from home.

Man Utd are unbeaten in their final league game in each of the last nine calendar years (W6 D3) since a 3-2 loss against Blackburn at Old Trafford in 2011.

Burnley have lost their final league game in just one of the last eight calendar years (W4 D3), though that defeat did come against Manchester United in 2019 (0-2).

Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 Premier League home games, shipping 22 goals in the process. However, that clean sheet did come in their last such game at Old Trafford, a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

Manchester United Team News:

United will again be without the services of Paul Pogba due to a thigh problem, while Victor Lindelof is absent, having recently tested positive for coronavirus.

Bruno Fernandes will also miss out here, with the Portugal international picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Newcastle, which could open the door for Donny van de Beek to feature.

Jadon Sancho and Cavani both impressed off the bench against Newcastle and could now earn starts, with Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford potentially dropping to the bench.

Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw are also in contention, but Rangnick is expected to resist the temptation to change his midfield two or defensive unit for Thursday’s contest.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:
De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Van de Beek; Ronaldo, Cavani
