It’s not often I dust off the keyboard to share my feelings with the world, but I simply have had enough of INEOS. We have been led astray, bamboozled, and flat out deceived. Ever since Mid February, I was on the hype train. Everyone and their mother thought Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his band of trim-fit suited men would ride into Sir Matt Busby Way on their white horses and save this club from a never-ending purgatory. I was so wrong, and so were you too.
In this short time, INEOS happened to build up some steam for themselves, getting rid of useless executives, and replacing them with a seemingly competent group of killers. The jury is still out as most of them have had little time to actually operate and work at the club, but my frustration still persists. My main issue with INEOS is that they seem to suffer from analysis paralysis. Having been at the club and appointed new heads of whatever-title-you-can-think-of, INEOS has gone frustratingly quiet since Ten Hag pulled off the unimaginable and lifted the FA Cup, for his second trophy in as many years.
What is Taking so Long?
Ten Hag is currently negotiating a new contract after a pretty ugly case of “is the grass always greener on the other side” syndrome. This oddly public courting split the group even further, but I almost feel ashamed to say they probably made the right choice? Ten Hag is a maniac, but he’s only Dutch. History tells us we don’t need another German maniac with suspect patterns trying to invade England. The true mark of success is not the quality of the decisions made, but rather the ability to make decisions quickly. No decision is perfect, but what counts is that you make them with confidence, and that appears to have been lacking.
In all their scenario analysis of the next season, INEOS surely by now must know about how much they have to spend, what areas they want to strengthen, and how they want to see the team play. We are a couple weeks into the Euros, and the only transfer news is about a bench-warmer for the Dutch national team. Ten Hag is repeating the Van Gaal and recruiting every player who once touched soil in the Netherlands into a super-team that will finish 6th at best. Simply put, this summer will be brutal. The only thing we can do is enjoy the Euros and Copa America, and hope Vibes FC returns come mid August.
