Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, United are “leading the race” for the Brazilian forward and view him as a key target to reinforce their attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 25-year-old has a £62.5 million release clause in his contract, and Wolves are expected to hold firm on that valuation after a standout season in the Premier League. He was fined and suspended for a tunnel altercation with Ipswich Town staff earlier this season, and was also sent off in an FA Cup clash for headbutting a Bournemouth player. While these incidents may not be deal-breakers, they add a layer of risk that United will need to manage carefully.
Still, Manchester United appear confident in their ability to integrate Cunha into a more structured environment under Amorim. The club is reportedly in early discussions over personal terms, and Cunha is said to be open to the move, viewing United as a step up and a chance to play European football consistently.
