Manchester United set eyes on Donny van de Beek

In the last 24 hours, Donny van de Beek to Manchester United rumors have been swirling in the papers and social media. Per Sky Sports Manchester United is close to an agreement with Ajax.

There is a preference from Ajax to complete a signing before their season kicks off on September 13th. This timeline would fit Ole’s demand for getting midfield reinforcements in ASAP.

The fee is said to be £40M and Manchester United will offer Donny a 5-year deal. Given Manchester United’s recent cash crunch, I believe this type of deal would be more in line with what the club can afford given the COVID-19 headwinds.

Who is Donny van de Beek?

I myself was not too familiar with Donny so I did a little digging on the internet machine. He has 37 caps for Ajax this season, gracing their starting XI 88% of the time, with 10 goals in all competitions (2 in the Champions League). Van de Beek is an attacking midfielder with the potential to bolster Manchester United’s depth in the middle of the park.

Does Manchester United need Donny van de Beek?

If you ask – what player was most overworked in the recent run of EPL fixtures? It has to be Bruno Fernandes! With Mata aging, van de Beek would provide much-needed depth in the midfield for Ole.

Additionally, he could feature in a midfield two with Pogba when Manchester United looked to breakdown tightly packed opposition. Ole did struggle against lower opposition who were intent to defend last season. Adding another attacking midfielder might be the key to improving Manchester United’s poor form against the Burnley’s of the world.

Manchester United is looking to the future with this potential signing as Mata is getting older and Jesse Lingard might be leaving. I think it would be sound business from United if they can complete the deal before the next season kicks off in September.
