The January Transfer Window from the View of a MUFC Fan

Signing Bruno Fernades is a good addition for United. However, Woodward once again shown throughout the transfer window that he lacks negotiating ability. Bruno, being the only transfer this window has left the supporters feeling disappointed. The rumors of Haaland, Maddison, and Grealish appeared to have substance attached to them. Yet, nothing came from these rumors.

Come On, Woodward!

While I am grateful for Bruno, the club needs more. Specifically, a director of football is needed sooner rather than later. Watching the board pretend that United does not have the funds has not worked as a transfer strategy. Frankly, it is hard watching the Glazers and Woodward run the business side of United, while not loving the club. That is the main issue, to run the club, they should love the club.

Ole has not had the best success as the manager, but he has shown time and time again he has passion for the club. The infamous quote, “Playing performance doesn’t really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business” from Woodward proves they do not truly care about the club. United has the greatest supporters in the world, and I firmly believe that, but the board has been abusing fans’ love of the club for too long.

Bruno and Sanchez

Thankfully, Bruno will be joining the squad. United has needed a creative player to fill the CAM role for a while now and Bruno looks like a solid solution. Ole has commented in the press that Sanchez will come back from his loan spell with Inter and “prove you all wrong”. United has an attack that shines brightly and looks to have a large future in front of all of them. However, Sanchez does not share that potential.

The 31-year-old undoubtedly has his best seasons behind him. Forcing Sanchez into United’s rebuild is awkward. In Ole’s defense, United has shown a particular liking to seasoned veterans who help the maturing process of younger players. Previously, players like Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Antonio Valencia have set the tone for the club and Ole might be looking towards Alexis for the veteran leadership.

Who is not coming in

Haaland not arriving this window hurts. Ole coached him previously and Haaland would fit well into the United system; however, Woodward could not reach a deal for him. Eriksen leaves for the Serie A and both English CAMs (Maddison and Grealish) stay put at their current clubs. Missing out on the targets listed above might lead to regrets.

Final Thoughts

Despite this past window, I still believe in this club. Peaceful protest is the best way to create a brighter future for United. Results are important and the board should realize these negative performances will affect the business side. However, the board noticing the effect of performances is not enough, the board should love the club the same way that we all do.
