Ole loves a pacey winger and Filip Stevanovic is just that. Partizan Belgrade played United twice this season in the Europa League group stages, and our scouts must have seen something in Partizan’s young winger. Stevanovic played in both matches against the Red Devils, coming off the bench as a substitute.
Last Season
Stevanovic made 25 appearances in the Serbian Super League last season, with 10 goal contributions. Being only 17 years old, those stats are very impressive. He has played on both sides of the wing and occasionally as a deep-lying center forward.
He also got good gametime in the Europa League last season, which helped him develop as a player. Multiple clubs were impressed enough with his performances to begin scouting Stevanovic; if United don’t pull the trigger, he could very easily sign for another top-flight English club.
United’s Squad Depth
Stevanovic is just the type of player that Ole prefers and United need. Also, regardless of how the negotiations go with Jadon Sancho, United could use more squad depth.
Clubs like Dortmund have been successful by buying young players for a low price and developing them into world-class stars. It is time for Woodward to start using that gameplan and focus on the future.
Contract Details
If a deal were to go through than Stevanovic would likely stay with Partizan, on loan as a United player for next season. He wouldn’t see enough minutes at Old Trafford and would benefit from another year in the Serbian Super League.
United scouts have been seen all over Europe this season, but Woodward still hasn’t fired as hot. It feels like we are in for a long and nervy transfer window.
