Manchester United’s U23s are in action against Tottenham this Sunday at 12:00PM EST. The lads are trying to make it three league wins in a row. The Reds currently sit at 9th on the Premier League 2 table with 8 points, Tottenham is in 4th with 11 points.
However, current form swings in favor of United. The Reds have taken 6 points from their last two league games, while Tottenham has only taken 4. United also have the advantage in goals, with 15 to Tottenham’s 8. There is no reason why the boys cannot go out on Sunday and make it three in a row.
United have won their last two premier league games. Their offense is potent scoring 15 goals so far this season. That is only 3 away from league leaders, Derby County, at 18 goals. The real test for United’s U23s will be on the defensive side. While their offense has been lethal, their defense has been leaky, giving up 15 goals.
United’s leading goal scorers, Arnau Puigmal and Joe Hugill, will try to get on the scoring sheet, they have 3 goals each. Hugill is only 17 and has made 5 appearances in the U23 squad, while also playing for the U18 squad. Interestingly, Puigmal has only had 2 appearances, yet somehow has 3 goals and 2 assists. With these two in the squad, United surely have enough to overpower the Spurs.
Tottenham lost at home their last time out to league leaders Derby County 1-2. They’re an extremely defensive team. While they have only scored 8 goals, the Spurs have only let in 4. Tottenham is going to be a tough defense to crack, with 3 shutouts this season. With some creativity United will find a way to break through.
Tottenham’s U23 squad only has one player with multiple goals for the season, their leading goals scorer, Rodel Richards. The player that United needs to look out for is Harvey White. He’s had the most offensive output for Tottenham with 4 goal involvements, mostly assists (3 assists, 1 goal). It looks like one goal will be enough to win this, let’s hope the boys can find it.
I think that this match is going to be very interesting. You will have the classic game of a potent offense versus a stingy defense. The game will be a close one, but I believe United will edge it out 1-0. Puigmal will have the assist with Hannibal grabbing the winner late in the second half. It will certainly be a close game, but I believe United’s offense is just clever enough to take all 3 points.
