Analysing Edinson Cavani’s Shooting During ’19-20 Season

Manchester United made a big-name transfer by bringing in striker Edinson Cavani. So, I analysed his shooting ability to get an idea of what we could expect from him.

For this, I made his shot map of the previous 2019-20 Ligue 1 season.

Unfortunately, my concern that he’s declined and not the same as he was 2+ seasons ago is rising. This is as his shot map shows he had quite a poor performance as a striker. Half of his shots were off-target altogether.

He scored only 4 goals despite having an xG of 9.32, clearly indicating he’s underperformed & been some way off the mark.

I’m hoping it’s because he missed a lot of game-time through injury & played only 593 minutes across 14 matches and that he regains his fitness & comes good.

At the least, I think he’ll bring in some experience and is someone United’s young attackers can learn from. He’ll also add competition and spur Martial & Greenwood on!
