United Academy – Ones To Watch – Week Ending 12/13/2020

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great Derby week. Our senior team was bounced out of the UCL and had a lackluster performance against the sky blue degens from across town and our Academy lads followed that up with a mixed bag of results. The U18s won a hotly contested match against Wolves by a final of 1-0. The U23s had a lackluster week with a loss to Accrington Stanley in Round 2 of the Papa John’s Trophy competition and followed up with a draw against the U23 version of the Noisy Neighbors.

UNDER 18 SPOTLIGHT: Dermott Mee

Who Are Ya??: Dermott Mee is one of our goalkeepers who was born on 11/20/2002 in Birmingham. Mee joined United at the age of 12 after playing for Walsall FC. Mee also plays for the Northern Ireland U18 squad even though he was born in the previously mentioned Birmingham.

Dermott Mee

Stats vs Wolves

Dermott registered a clean sheet against Wolves in a testy affair on 12/12. He was a constant thorn in the side of Wolves denying them even a sniff of a decent goal scoring chance. Mee has not played often in the side but with a result like this, he very well might earn the nod in future matches.

UNDER 23 SPOTLIGHT: Facundo Pellistri

Who Are Ya??: Facundo Pellistri is a Uruguayan winger who was born on 12/20/2001. He joined Manchester United on 10/4/2020 after a bizarre transfer move completed by Woodward (#WoodwardOut) captured headlines regarding its odd stance and awkward communication between both clubs.

Facundo Pellistri

Stats vs Accrington Stanley

Pellistri added his second goal to his tally in a losing effort to Accrington Stanley. Pellistri corralled an awkward ball outside the box, took a touch left causing one defender to miss, fainted another who took out his own keeper and then sweetly struck the ball into the back of the net.

Stats vs that smaller club in Manchester

Pellistri added his third goal to his campaign against the little brothers across town. Pellistri was the recipient of beautiful ball into the box by Ethan Laird. With a quick settle a flick to his left, Pellistri slotted the ball past the outstretch hand of the keeper.
