United Academy – Ones To Watch – Week Ending 12/19/2020

Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed another rousing week at our famous club. The senior team was able to take three points from Sheffield United and continue an impressive streak that should see us challenging for a title. In Academy news, the U18s took on Leeds scum on 12/17 which resulted in a 4-0 win in our favor. This victory was the eighth straight and tenth out of eleven for the U18s. The U23s suffered an absolutely devastating defeat to Chelsea on 12/18 by a score of 6-1. It was clear that the lads were focused on the upcoming holiday while Chelsea was focused at the task at hand.

UNDER 18 SPOTLIGHT: Charlie McNeill

Who Are Ya??: Charlie McNeill was born on 09/09/2003 and originally started his career here at Manchester United. He then made a terrible mistake by leaving for the Noisy Neighbors but corrected that when he rejoined his boyhood club on 09/11/2020. He currently plays the forward positions for the U18s.

Stats vs Leeds

Charlie was the catalyst in our victory against Leeds. He scored twice in the previously mentioned 4-0 win. In the 7th minute, Charlie scored an beautifully struck panenka penalty which drew equal attention for the “Take the L” celebration as much as the deft finish. Any player showing that much disrespect to Leeds will become an instant club favorite. In the extra time towards the end of the 1st half, Charlie added his second by making a beautiful run, shimmying around the goalkeeper and slotting its past the defense.

Who Are Ya??: Joe Hugill is an English strike who was born on 10/19/2003. He join the Red Devils on 07/01/2020 from Sunderland. He has been previously highlighted in the article for Week Ending 12/06/2020 for his brace against Liverpool

Stats vs Chelsea

Joe Hugill presented the only bright spot in a lackluster, head scratching loss to Chelsea. Joe made a beautiful run and connected with a cross to strike for United’s only goal of the match.

  1. Overall great weekend of football for us except that loss to Chelsea. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the youth players, and definitely excited to see Kai Rooney join the Academy. Do we know if he’s set on becoming a striker like his dad?

    • Nothing as of yet and from what I have read, Wayne is taking a hands off approach. They want to let him figure his game out.
